Nina Hansen has embezzled diamonds, it’s Inspector Lysewski’s job to find out what she’s up to. She asks for police protection, he gives her more – and eventually has to decide. Nina, the manager of an escort service, is attacked by a stranger with a knife, in the forest. She is barely able to escape by ramming the assailant with her car and seriously injuring him. On her way back, she finds a small sack of diamonds in the car. Apparently the ransom payment for a kidnapping – as she finds out the next day. Nina reports the assault to the police, but she withholds the diamonds, since her escort service is having trouble making ends meet. The police, and particularly Inspector Lysewski, find the attractive woman rather mysterious, but there’s nothing they can pin on her. Nina, however, didn’t reckon with the kidnapper, the very same man who attacked her that night in the forest. When he threatens her again, despite police protection – this time in her apartment – Inspector Lysewski comes to her rescue. During the chase, the kidnapper is killed. To be sure, Lysewski suspects that Nina has the diamonds, and his career-oriented colleague Weber is hell-bent on nailing her, but Lysewski covers for her – he has fallen in love and is secretly having an affair with her. Suddenly Lysewski discovers that Nina wants to flee abroad. He now faces perhaps the most important decision of his life.
